ISLAMABAD, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussain would be visiting Kabul on Monday to attend the swearing- in ceremony for the new President of Afghanistan, the Foreign Ministry said late Sunday.
Afghan president-elect Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai will be sworn-in on Monday in the country's first-ever peaceful power transition. President Hamid Karzai, the longest serving elected president, will transfer power to the new leader.
"The President's participation in the inauguration ceremony underscores Pakistan's consistent support for peaceful democratic transition in Afghanistan," the Pakistani Foreign Ministry said.
"The visit would also contribute to strengthening the fraternal ties between the two countries," the Foreign Ministry statement said.
Afghan officials said that some foreign delegates will also attend the oath-taking ceremony.
Pakistan congratulated the Afghan people and leadership on the signing of the agreement on government of national unity and completion of the electoral process.
