KABUL, May 8 (Xinhua) -- Afghan police in a Thursday raid killed seven militants including a governor and a provincial police chief appointed by the ousted Taliban regime in western province of Ghor, the interior ministry said.

The two-hour raid was started Thursday noon near a village some15 km away from the provincial capital city of Chaghcharan, where a group of "high-rank" Taliban militants were planning attacks, the ministry said in a statement.

There has been no casualties on the police in the operation, during which seven machine guns and some ammunition were captured, it added.

Taliban has made no comment in the regard yet.

The Taliban, ousted from power in late 2001 by a U.S.-led military invasion, went into insurgency against Afghan government and foreign troops.
